Mega Millions Jackpot Enters Record Territory, Next Drawing Tonight

Mega Millions Jackpot Enters Record Territory, Next Drawing Tonight

The top 10 biggest rewards in the game now include the Mega Millions jackpot.

The Georgia Lottery's draw studio in Atlanta will host Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing at 11 p.m. ET. The prize is expected to be $575 million. The Mega Millions top jackpots list includes T hat at number nine.

A one-time cash option for an estimated $285.5 million is available for the annuitized jackpot on August 27. Prior to federal and perhaps state taxes, both awards are awarded.

There hasn't been a ticket that matches the gold Mega Ball and the five white balls in 23 straight Mega Millions drawings. The odds of each ticket winning the jackpot remain unchanged at a pitiful one in over 302.5 million, so T tat isn't really shocking.

However, when more tickets are sold, the chances of winning a jackpot increase significantly because more possible number combinations of the 302,575,350 distinct sequences are covered.

Two tickets won $1 million when they matched all five white balls in the Mega Millions drawing on August 23. After the Megaplier landed on 3x, one of those tickets bought the optional $1 Megaplier, which quadrupled the jackpot to $3 million.

A Slow Year

Only two of the millions of Mega Millions tickets that were sold this year have matched the six winning numbers in their drawing.

A ticket sold in New Jersey on March 26 won a $1.128 billion prize after matching the gold Mega Ball and five white balls. There is still no redemption for that ticket. In New Jersey, lottery participants have up to a year to come forward.

The tenth-largest Mega Millions prize in the game's history, $552 million, was won on June 4 from a ticket sold in Illinois.

In 1996, Mega Millions made its premiere as The Big Game. Before taking on its present name in 2003, it changed its name to The Big Game Mega Millions.

Mega Millions has seen an increase in jackpots over $1 billion due to its lengthier jackpot chances compared to rival Powerball, which are roughly one in 292.2 million. Six Mega Millions jackpots above more than $1 billion have been awarded since 2018.

Five 10-figure, before-tax jackpots have been awarded by Powerball, including the $2.04 billion prize that a player in California won in 2022, the highest in the country.

In addition to Washington, DC, and the US Virgin Islands, Mega Millions is played in forty-five states. The majority of participating jurisdictions provide a $1 add-on Megaplier, which enables winning tickets to multiply their nonjackpot payouts. Tickets cost $2.

Texas on Alert

In addition to promoting its $575 million prize pool for Tuesday night's drawing, Mega Millions organizers are advising Texas players to review their past wagers. The $1 million winning ticket from the March 19 drawing is about to expire on Sunday, September 15.

It is recommended that anyone who bought a Mega Millions ticket from the All-Season Food convenience store in Houston, which is situated at 3411 Antoine Drive, check their ticket slips. The ticket in issue missed the gold Mega Ball of 7 to win the second-best prize of $1 million in the Mega Millions, despite matching all five white balls (24-46-49-62-66).

The fortunate ticket buyer chose not to use the $1 Megaplier, which would have quadrupled the winnings to $2 million.
